Advocacy

Runggiyan advocates for the rights of women and children at community and government level in an attempt to institutionalise change. We advocate for violence free societies where human rights are respected by all. Our advocacy activities include puppet shows, mascot appearances, an information resource center, and engaging with local and national government.

Runggiyan advocates for violence-free societies, sexual reproductive health rights and safe motherhood, and women's rights.

Advocacy is carried out at both community, regional and national level to push for improved and gender-sensitive policies and support services for survivors of abuse. The allocation of sufficient resources is important when addressing government support. The mandate for LGUs to provide a minimum of 5% of their budget for Gender and Development activities is a key area for such lobbying.

Access to information for sexual reproductive health and safe motherhood is another area of Runggiyan's advocacy work. Predominantly we work with adolescent teenagers to inform them of their choices and rights. We also do outreach work in the barangays on these topics.

Runggiyan's advocacy work has seen many successes including the passing of the following legislation which Runggiyan campaigned for;

* Tacloban City Anti-Domestic Violence Ordinance No 2003-8-144
* Tacloban City Women’s Code Ordinance No 2003-8-160
* Leyte Provincial Gender and Development Ordinance No 2003-01
* Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, 2003 Republic Act 9208
* Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act, 2004 Republic Act
