SAMELCO II Holds Annual Assembly

In its endeavor to promote corporate confidence among its member-consumers, the Samar II Electric Cooperative. Inc. (SAMELCO II) held its 29th Annual General Membership Assembly on July 14, 2007, at the Municipal Social Hall in the scenic town of Hinabangan, Samar. This year's theme,"SAMELCO II: Strengthening Initiatives Towards Total Empowerment of Member-Consumers", reflects the electric cooperative's commitment to enhance measures leading to the satisfaction of the communities it serves.

A total of 1,684 Member-Consumers attended the event, details of which as follows: Catbalogan - 16; Jiabong - 170; Motiong - 88; Paranas - 465; San Sebastian - 155; Hinabangan - 376; Calbiga - 110; Villareal - 28; Pinabacdao - 1; Sta. Rita - 58; Talalora - 6; Basey - 46; Marabut - 14; Daram - 29; Zumarraga - 21; SAMELCO II Employees - 96, and; 5 more pax consisting of the members of the Board of Directors namely: Mr. Alfonso F. Quilapio as Board President (Director-District III, comprising of the Municipalities of Paranas and San Sebastian), Mr. Mansueto M. Delovino as Board Vice-President (Director-District VII, comprising of the Municipalities of Basey and Marabut), Mrs. Deborah T. Marco as Board Secretary/Treasurer (Director-District I, Catbalogan City), Atty. Medino L. Acuba as Board Public Information Officer (Director-District II, comprising of the Municipalities of Jiabong and Motiong), and Mr. Ponciano R. Rosales as the General Manager.

Gracing the annual assembly as guest speaker was no less than Hinabangan Mayor Alejandro N. Abarratigue, who encouraged every Member-Consumer to appreciate the rural electrification program of the government with SAMELCO II in the frontline, despite the challenges brought in by the national policies affecting the power industry. He further emphasized the need to fully cooperate with the standards being set by SAMELCO II as it will sustain the economic viability of the electric cooperative, leading to greater gains for all its Member-Consumers.

In a brief presentation of SAMELCO II's 2006 accomplishments, Board President Alfonso F. Quilapio highlighted the energization of another 10 barangays which include: Brgy. San Miguel in the Municipality of Jiabong; Brgy. Union in the Municipality of Sta. Rita; Brgy. Sto. NiƱo in the Municipality of Paranas, and; Brgys. Guindapunan, Cabilisan, Tugas, Canloloy, Manduyucan, Bachao, and Talisay in the island Municipality of Daram. The 2006 financial report followed shortly, with General Manager Ponciano R. Rosales presenting the details. An open forum ensued, in order to address some critical operational issues of the electric cooperative.

The assembly culminated with a raffle draw with several Member-Consumers winning valuable home appliances.
