TACLOBAN CITY – Some 13 motorcycles were impounded by the PNP Traffic management group (TMG) midnight on Saturday along Magsaysay Boulevard, this activity, in connection with its on-going Anti-Drag Racing Operation.

Nine of the 13 motorcycles were turned over to the Land Transportation Office and the four are still being held pending presentation of documents to determine real ownership of the vehicle since nobody claimed as owners. The vehicles were considered as still under investigation.

In an interview with Sr. Police Officer Gordiano Bandolon, he revealed that a lecture will be conducted the parents of the children who engaged in the drag racing. They will also be asked why they allowed their children to engage in such activity that may trigger crime and accidents.

“The motorcycles will not be released even if the documents are complete if the parents will not attend the lecture,” says Bandolon.

Children aged 16-23 and even married individuals are mostly the ones involved in the said activity. Bandolon further told Leyte Samar Daily Express that the racers, however, denied that they were drag racing and instead said that they were only strolling.

No money bets were recovered, however, although reports were received by the TMG prior to the operation that there was indeed betting on the said race.

He stressed also that the racers incurred violations such as recklessness, driving without license and driving a vehicle without registration. Further, he said that a racing permit has to be procured first from the city government by the racers before engaging in the activity but the race has to be held in sports centers and not in highways where they could interrupt the flow of traffic.

Bandolon, however, assured that so far they have not received any information if untoward incidents in the area result from the said drag racing.
