TACLOBAN CITY – Anchored on the theme “Peace Unity and Solidarity Through Sports,” the ongoing sports competition participated by 11 state colleges and universities in the region continues to captivate people who love sports events.
Partial results of the games as of noontime yesterday showed that Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) leading in basketball with two wins and no lose. University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) led in volleyball men with three wins and no lose, followed by EVSU with two wins.
TTMIST and SLSU ranked first in the volleyball women, both with two wins. UEP and SSCAF ked in sioft7ball women, while UEP led in the baseball game with two wins.
SSU and UEP topped in the football game, both with two wins, while EVSU shone in the lawn tennis competition with three wins, followed by PIT and ESSU all with two wins.
Meanwhile, ESSU and SSU, TTMIST, EVSU and UEP shared the same ranked in badminton men, all with one win. LNU, however, led in the women division with two wins followed by PIT, TTMIST, SLSU, EVSU and UEP, with all one win. In table tennis men, UEP and SSU led with two wins, while SSU and LNU led in the women division, also with two wins. LNU, on the other hand, was the leader in Sepak Takraw with three wins.
Meanwhile, SCUAA overall sports coordinator, Director Perla Figer gave the final result in taekwondo. In the men’s division, Fin Weight, Samuel Renomeron of EVSU got the gold medal. Other gold medalists were Fin Weight Marvincent Kempis of LNU; Bantamweight Roy Lobrigas of ESSU; Featherweight Rolando de Paz; Welterweight Teodoro Dagal of ESSU and Welterwieght Jasper Yu of EVSU.
In the female category, Jill Marie Ayes of LNU got the gold medal for the Fin weight; Christine Duzon of ESSU for the Flyweight, Odessa Encina of LNU for the Bantamweight. Evita Barbosa of EVSU for the Featherweight, Roxanne Saberon of LNU for the Lightweight and Lorelie Casas of LNU for the Welterweight Division.
Sports competitions are ongoing at the Leyte Sports Complex and are to end on Oct. 29.
