SAN JORGE, Samar – For many years, this once sleeping town in western Samar has downplayed its tourist and business potentials to the public, but the recent change in administration this fifth class municipality is in for a change.

In a meeting with the town’s councilors, Mayor Joseph Grey reiterated his willingness to join his town in the forthcoming “Wow Philippines 2004” in Intramuros, Manila. The province of Samar and its participating towns like San Jorge, Basey and Sta. Rita will showcase its natural wonders, tourist destinations and delicacies or “best buys” starting December 1-15, 2004.

In fact, Mayor Grey will dispatch on Oct. 21, a 6-man inventory team that will conduct the documentation and mapping of several tourist destinations in this municipality.

“With this participation, we offer a new facade to all domestic and local tourists. We will see to it that these will give our town a promising history, culture, people and tourism potentials,” the mayor explained.

According to him, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Susano Salurio, who chairs the SP committee on tourism, is now preparing the whole activities, leaflets, booth interior design and other promotional materials intended for their distribution to visiting outdoor enthusiasts in the Clamp Shell in Intramuros, Manila.

“After this 3-day inventory of our tourist spots, we will start preparing our own promotional materials such as blow-up pictures, video documentaries for showing (in Manila),” Grey said.
