ISLES to hold inaugural forum in EV on Dec. 10

TACLOBAN CITY – The Institute for Samar and Leyte Engagements (ISLES) Inc., a newly-organized non-government organization anchored on a vision of empowered communities in Eastern Visayas and engaging research, community / barangay capability trainings and community-based resource generations, is coming up with its monthly development forum on December 10 at the SMED center.

The title and topic of the inaugural forum is “Quality of Life in Eastern Visayas Region: Assessments and Projects”.

Jaime Biron Polo, ISLES executive director, said they have invited Southern Leyte Governor Rosette Lerias, who is the chairperson of the Regional Development Council, and Buenaventura Go-Soco Jr., the Regional Director of National Economic and Development Authority, who would be the main discussants of the forum.

The forum, according to Polo, aims to provide a channel for people’s active participation in the discussion of relevant development issues, programs, activities which impact on their daily lives and whenever necessary and possible, in the creation of resolutions and collective actions to properly address particular development in issues concerns.

It also desires to convene representatives from the different sectors of the region, like fish folks, workers, youth, women, gays and lesbians, professionals, religious, media, government officials and workers and facilitate their interactions and interfaces which should yield meaningful courses of action geared towards the further development of their lives.
