Boy Scouts to hold national junior leader’s encampment this December

CATBALOGAN, Samar– As a character building and citizenship training program for young boys, 75 percent of the scouting program is centered on the out-of-doors like hiking, overnight, week-end/summer camps, and activities like rallies and jamborettes in the district and provincial levels.

As the boy participates in these different activities, his norm of conduct will be in accord with the scout oath, the scout law, motto and slogan.

The scout law is – that the boy scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, and reverent.

It is in view of the character building and citizenship training aspect of the scouting program that the Philippine educational system had mad e the scouting program as a curricular educational program.

Samar OIC School Division Superintendent Teotimo M. Orbeso informed that the national council pf the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) is conducting on December 27, 2004 to January 03. 2005, the National Junior Leader’s Encampment at the national scouts reservation, Mt. Makiling, Los Ba ños, Laguna.

And the Samar Council, BSP, is definitely participating this national junior leader’s training event, Orbeso said.

“In order to have a better participation this activity, all concern is encouraged to select at least three active and deserving scouts per school/district who can ably present our beloved Province.”

The qualification o-f participants are, according to Orbeso:

  • Must be currently registered with the Samar Council and BSP, either as a boy or senior scout;
  • Must be 12 years old but not more than 17-1/2 years old;
  • Posses good traits or skills of leadership;
  • Be physically fit as certified by a physician;
  • Have sufficient experience;
  • Posses parents/ guardians permit, and
  • Be equipped with camping gears.

A week before departure, the members of the Samar delegation would undergo a

week-long training here in Catbalogan to better prepare them for the encampment.
