TACLOBAN CITY – Namehiring is now available as one of the services offered at the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA-8) satellite office in the region.

With this, name hires in the region can already benefit the comfort of not anymore going to POEA central office in Metro Manila just to process their papers because the POEA satellite office in the region is already capable of serving job applicants with regards to namehiring.

Namehiring is a system wherein a worker secures employment overseas on his own without the assistance or participation of any agency.

The worker may be referred or named by relatives, friends or companies known to both employer and worker or he may have found employment without the intercession of a third party in the process. In this case, he can already have that employment abroad and work there.

But according to POEA Regional Coordinator Rose Jervoso, the worker has still to pass through their office in order for his papers to be documented and processed.

“We don’t have any participation i0n the job search of a worker but after he has found an employer, the same has to go to our office so that his papers will be properly documented and processed which we do as well, otherwise his papers would not be illegal,” Jervoso said.

Jervoso also revealed that this service was allowed to POEA-8 as an opportunity because not all region offices in the country offer namehiring services.

She also said that before they have availed of the service, they have proven that they can serve the people in the region even with this additional service.

Just last month POEA-8 listed one male and three female hires. From May to October this year, a total of 18 namehires have already sought the assistance of their office for employment abr6oad. Most of those people were bound for Canada.

Jervoso believes that awareness among the people in the region about namehiring would still help the figures on name hires to rise.
