BORONGAN, Eastern Samar – Preparations are now in high gear for the celebration of the 39 th Founding Anniversary of Eastern Samar on November 9, 2004, in whi0ch all activities will revolve under the theme “Eastern Samar at 39: Meeting the Challenges of the Times.”
The think-tank of Governor Ben Evardone see to it that the numbers 3 and 9 play a significant role in meeting the challenges head-on because on November 3 will be the opening salvo of the week–long celebration, with the take-off of the Multisectoral Caravan Against Illegal Drugs.
Among the important highlights of this year’s annual feast will be the holding of a Job Fair on November 6 and the unveiling of the marker of the Amasa Drive and the Ceremonial Walk in the evening of the said date.
The Governor Amasa Drive is to give honor and respect to the late Governor Victor Amasa, the first Provincial Governor of Eastern Samar in 1976. Another important event would be the search for Binibining Silangan Samar on the Pageant Night on November 8.
For those who have no idea about the Gov. Amasa Drive, it is a stretch of 300 meters, beginning on then west bend entrance from the national highway passing through the Capitol site and exiting on the east bend to the national highway near the Civil Service Commission office in Brgy. Alang-alang, Borongan, laid a horseshoe.
The founding celebration of Eastern Samar at 39 is neatly packaged to showcase the provincial government’s thrusts to bail the province out from a high incidence of poverty.
The activities include the informal chat of the governor with them local media, a trade and business fair, a band concert, the open house of the capitol, blood letting and free medical check-up. On November 9, the Employees Family Day would be held, an outreach program will be conducted to jail inmates and hospital patients to be followed by a Pontifical Mass, and this would be caped with the Awarding of the Clean and Green Winners in the evening.
Rep. Marcelino “Nonoy” Libanan and Gov. Ben Evardone would be the main “actors” in the veni0ng and into the social.
