TACLOBAN CITY – The city government I looking forward to the privatization of the city slaughterhouse to regain its loss in the past years.

City administrator Jimmy Yaokasin revealed that every year the city government is spending 5 million pesos for the slaughterhouse but in return it only gets 1.5 million pesos, or a loss of 3.5 million pesos, every year.

Yaokasin recalled that since the city slaughterhouse started its operation, it is also began losing.

“Actually, before it only has an income ranging from 800, 000 pesos to 900, 000 pesos every year to us initiated a reform and conducted check and balances to the slaughter fees. As the moment, we collect 1.5 million pesos and we are targeting 1.8 million at the end of the year, Yaokasin said.

He cited some of the advantages if the city slaughterhouse would be privatized, and one of these is that there would be a direct process and another is, it would be more innovative if it is privatized because they can easily make changes.

“We are open to that proposal because we would like to regain our loss for the past years,” Yaokasin stressed.

However, he clarified that the meat inspector would not be privatized, but only operations at the slaughterhouse.

“We want to privatize it in exchange for a fee. They will lease (the slaughterhouse at) 30, 000 a month, so we can have 360, 000 pesos every year,” Yaokasin said.

He also assured that the slaughter fee would be 40 percent lower than those in other abattoirs.

As of now the city government has not yet made any move for there was no serious proposal submitted yet, Yaokasin disclosed.
