Jane Lois de Veyra, a first year BS Computer Science student of the University of the Philippines in the Visayas Tacloban College brought home the championship trophy of the 13 th Philippine Statistics Quiz held at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Assembly Hall, F.B. Harrison, Manila on December 7, 2004.

It was the first ever championship trophy for the region by defeating 16 other regional champions nationwide.

Ms. De Veyra emerged regional champion for Eastern Visayas among 20 other representatives from the different provinces in the region in a contest held at NEDA Pawing, Palo, Leyte on November 17, 2004. She topped all other contestants from start to finish. She was coached by UP Statistics Professor Engr. Roberto Capon.

The Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) is an annual contest, started in 1992, designed to test first-year college students’ knowledge of statistics. It aims to instill the value of statistics among students and to measures the effectiveness of the high school statistics curriculum. The 2004 PSQ, the thirteenth series, was conducted nationwide involving freshmen students enrolled in colleges and universities in the 17 regions of the country.
