Maasin City prepares for EVRAA hosting
By: PIA - Maasin

MAASIN CITY – Top city and education officials of the newly-created city schools division here have started burning the midnight candle in an all-out effort to insure the success of a region-wide sportsfest top be hosted by this city in Feb. next year.

City Vice-Mayor Maloney Samaco, who is the chairman of the sports council, presided over an organizational meeting at his office last Dec. 6, threshing our details for the forthcoming Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet scheduled form Feb. 26 to March 3.

At least 23 working committees have already been identified with different tasks during the meeting to take care of various activities for the duration of the 7-day Regional Sports event.

Schools that would serve as billeting quarters for the visiting contingents have also been identified, and concerns as accommodation, security and transportation, among others, were thoroughly discussed.

More than 3, 000 athletes, coaches and officiating officials coming form six provincial schools divisions and three other city schools divisions are expected to converge and actively participate in the regional games.

As of this writing, it was not known yet how much funds the city government had appropriated, or intended to appropriate, as general budget for hosting the EVRAA, its first since becoming a city in the year 2000.
