TACLOBAN CITY – An on-going program of the Department of Agriculture (DA), which is the Government Seed Subsidy, enables the rice farmers to buy hybrid and certified seeds in a lesser amount than the original price.
Sources at the DA regional office said the program gives discount to the rice farmers who will be buying seeds. In hybrid, the farmers can buy the seeds at P50.00 per kilo wherein one bag of it weights 20 kg. In a regular price of hybrid seeds, a one bag (20kg) is worth P2,400, but if the farmers avail the said program, they can buy one bag (20kg) at P1,000.00 only. A P1,400 discount in every bag of 20kg is already a big help to the rice farmers.
Meanwhile, in the certified seeds, the farmers can buy seeds at P11.00 per kilo. For a one bag (40kg) of the certified seeds, the original price is worth P880.00. with that, the farmers can buy the seeds (40kg) at P440.00 only since the program gives P11.00 per kilo.
The seeds are available at the local government unit (LGU) or at the seed company distributor. The farmers who will be buying the seeds should be listed so that they can have their discounts
