BORONGAN, Eastern Samar – Also running unopposed, re-electionist Governor Ben P. Evardone made a stunning victory as he held the Lakas-CMD slate from the Vice Governor, SP Members, Municipal Mayors down to the SB members in Eastern Samar to clench the fresh mandate of the more than 184,000 who voted during the May 14 midterm polls.
Walloping a total of 66 percent or 122,467 votes based on the records of the Provincial Board of Canvassers, Evardone made a political history in the province as the only re-electionist governor to garner the highest margin of votes against political veteran and well-known trial lawyer, Atty. Camilo Camenforte who only mustered 23,011 votes. Camenforte served as Vice Governor and Provincial Board Member before Eastern Samar was divided into two congressional districts.
For the Vice Gubernatorial race, incumbent Vice Governor Leander R. Geli slashed a total lead of 92,753 votes against his opponent Rodulfo Anasarias 9,406 votes. Geli garnered a total of 102,159 votes.
All re-electionist Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members were Lakas-CMD candidates. They were: Cirilo Balagapo Jr., Aldwin Aklao, Karen Domingo Alvarez and Atty. Jose Vicente Opinion, The only opositon is neophyte Edita B. Sepulvida of Congressman-elect Teodulo Coquilla’s Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino.
For the 2nd District, on the other hand, the four Lakas-CMD re-electionist were: Generoso Yu, Fernando Naputo, Pedro Macaboscit, and Enerio Sabulao. Former PCL President Beatriz Lopez Reyes, also of Lakas, completed the fifth slot.
Of the 23 municipal mayors, 96 percent were Lakas-CMD candidates who made it during the May 14, 2007 elections, led by Borongan Mayor Fidel V. Anacta Jr., Mayor Neil M. Alvarez of Oras and Mayor Annaliza G. Kwan of Guiuan. Three LAKAS-CMD re-electionist mayors were unopposed: Conrado Nicart of San Policarpo, Septimo Campomanes of Maslog and Antonio Cardona of Llorente.
But Lakas-CMD congressional candidate Elda Ellado Libanan lost to low-key Teodulo Coquilla by 7,276 votes. The Libanans, Congressman Marcelino and Elda, conceded their defeat gracefully last weekend.
