TACLOBAN CITY – In the Philippines, the youth form a large part of the population, and hopefully, they will be able to unite the country and steer it to better heights. There are a lot of young Filipinos working abroad who are just raring to come back when they see the right time has come, and do their share in rebuilding this nation. As the economic foundations are being laid out, there is hope that the political foundations will also be set into place in the very near future.
This is how the youth in Leyte’s First District perceive young lawyer banker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez would be when he represents the district in his plan to vie for a congressional seat.
Steered to study and be at par with best students in the world and earn him a degree that would better arm him to carve out his own political destiny back in the country, Atty. Martin Romualdez shines among his peers.
Atty. Martin Romualdez is also being mentioned in the local and national political circle as he one who has absolutely no hang ups about the past while his brother Philip Romualdez, on the other hand, wants to stay out of politics and wants to do the mining industry where he is actively involved in. For the moment at least, according to sources.
The young lawyer practically belong to the generation of baby politicians, raring to be up and about and meet with people who are desperately in need of a ready ear who would listen and a helping hand to extend.
According to some youth leaders in the first district, “He (Atty. Martin) is the right man for the job. A working class hero who can connect with people from all walks of life.
The youth leaders further averred that the district need legislators who will focus on solving the problems that have plagued the country for so long and the politics of revenge should take a backseat to not at all.
The Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Palo believes the 43-yeraold son of former Leyte governor Benjamin “Kokoy” Romualdez, can keep Leyte economically sound while noting that with Atty. Martin’s business connections being a businessman himself will surely make a giant progress on improving the province’s education, health, and economy.
They added that he has also gained immensely on the prospects of turning Leyte into another potential hotspot in putting more effort and emphasis on tourism potentials of the district.
The young Romualdez, who also served as president of the SK Federation, disclosed, “Nobody was born a leader, and everybody should achieve that position. All sectors should engage young people as partners in building positive future for themselves, the communities and the society.
Meanwhile, in the thick of the political melee surrounding the unification his family forged with erstwhile political rival, the Petillas, Atty. Ferdinand Martin stressed that he does not want to have enemies but only friends as he fulfills his dream of serving the province.
“We are here to serve. Our family loves Leyte. Our roots are here and we will do our best to help the province and its people.
