TACLOBAN CITY – First nominee Jun Montero Alcover of the Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy (ANAD), a partylist eying a seat in the House of Representatives, yesterday reiterated his call to the communist leaders in the region to stop committing “violence” against the government law enforcement agencies, saying violence is never a solution to the 38-year-old communist rebellion in the country.
The group of Alcover, which was among those who waited the arrival of Bayan Muna Representative Saturnino Ocampo at the Tacloban City airport has instead appealed to militant groups, whom he considered frontliners of the armed CPP/NPA, to help the government come in a massive information and educate the people because he believes that non-violence is the best way to achieve our goals in crushing out communism in the country.
“Extra-judicial killings and continued violence would surely not be the best solution of the problem we are facing right now…but massive information and educating people would hit our target to somehow finish the insurgency problem,” Alcover said.
ANAD, known to be an anti-communist group, early last month kicked off their bid for party-list seats in the lower house, expressed optimism that its platform of government such as peace and order, economic reforms, infrastructure development, social services and its declaring war against terrorism in Congress with the help of the people this time can get a seat in Congress.
In 2004, according to Alcover, ANAD has won technically but unfolding events brought about by Hello Garci scandal caused their losing the opportunity.
“ANAD” was bale to get more than the total of 2 percent votes cast for partylist representation,” he said.
For years, ANAD has been the strong supporter and helping the Armed Forces of the Philippines on its direct and intensified campaign against communist rebellion in the country, but Alcover candidly admitted the fact that despite these efforts the government never extended any financial support to their group, yet what is very lamentable he said because communist partylist groups are using the government funds to fuel their advocacy solely geared towards the destruction and overthrow of the country’s sitting government.
Alcover, during his high school days in Cebu City, was recruited by the New People’s Army (NPA), but it was only in 1975 that he realized the evil managed to escaped from the communist movement, he said.
ANAD warned the public that communism will continue to destroy the economic stability of the country.
