DAR Leyte supports ‘KABISIG National Government and Foreign Embassies Expo 2007’

By: John Colasito

DAR Leyte under the leadership of Paro Enrique Granados, III has manifested its strong support for the forthcoming “KABISIG” National Government and Foreign Embassies Expo 2007” to be held at the SM Mal of Asia on June 11-15, 2007, which will have the theme “Global Community: Unity in Diversity.”

The said activity, an initiative of KABISIG People’s Movement Program, will feature profiles, service facilities and program, projects products and accomplishments of the national government, departments and attached agencies to include the role of foreign embassies in the country.

The said expo also aims to provide awareness and understanding how the government works and promotes national development. For the DAR, it hopes to showcase its gains and accomplishments made in the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).

In Leyte, DAR has distributed over 133,801 hectares to 103,15 farmers-beneficiaries after 17 years of CARP implementation and organized Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs) all over the province, mobilizing support services package from foreign donors and local partner agencies. Studies confirmed that farmer beneficiaries in Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs) have a higher standard of living compared to non-ARCs farmer beneficiaries nationwide. The DAR Leyte also has implemented the PDMASP (President Diosdado Macapagal Agrarian Scholarship Program) providing free education to selected but deserving children of CARP farmer-beneficiaries.
