Catarman, Northern Samar - In line with the celebration of Northern Samar's 42nd founding anniversary today, June 19, 2007, the provincial government headed by Governor Raul Daza has lined up several activities which kicked-off on June 16 and participated in by provincial and municipal officials, NGOs, people's organizations, national and local government agencies, youths and the general public.
This year's celebration, which has the theme "Poverty Alleviation via Sustainable Development," would be highlighted by the oath taking rites of all the newly-elected and re-elected provincial officials at 5 p.m. today at the provincial auditorium, after which an anniversary mass would be celebrated at 4 p.m.
Re-elected for his last and third term of office, Governor Daza will be sworn in by Judge Norma M. Cardenas of RTC-Branch 19 here in Catarman.
One of the activities that the governor himself graced was the opening of the "Tiangge sa Kapitolyo" last June 16 at the capitol grounds, which showcases homemade products such as processed foods, agricultural produce, handicrafts and other items that are being displayed and sold by local exhibitors and entrepreneurs.
On the afternoon of June 16, the Governor also led the opening of the sports showdown on volleyball and basketball between the teams of the City of Iriga and of the province.
On June 17, the celebration was highlighted by a Variety Show. And on the night of June 18, the original compositions of the late Judge Pablo Rebadulla was showcased. His original compositions were performed by the now becoming famous capitol singers and some local talents and bands of the province. The capitol grounds, being the venue of all the activities, were jam-packed by spectators.
As chief executive and father of the province of Northern Samar, Governor Daza has invited all the people of Northern Samar to be a part of the celebration of the province's 42nd Founding Anniversary by attending today's Mass and the dance party at 7 p.m.
June 19 of every year, by virtue of Republic Act No. 9414, has been declared as special non-working holiday solely for the province of Northern Samar, to give all Norte Samareños time in commemorating their foundation day, which was on June 19, 1965 - the day when Samar Island was split into three provinces that included Northern Samar. |
