TACLOBAN CITY- The concreting of the 6.6-kilometer access road from the national highway of Brgy. Aguiting, Kananga, Leyte going to the geothermal plant station of PNOC-EDC may soon push through as the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Leyte has already raised its go signal.

Leyte Vice Governor Mimiette Bagulaya disclosed in an interview with Leyte Samar Daily Express that the provincial board in its regular session on June 12 has ratified the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the PNOC-EDC and the provincial government of Leyte pushing for the implementation of the said project.

“The concreting plan for the said road section has been there long before but because of some disagreements between the PNOC-EDC and the province of Leyte especially with regards to monetary counterparting,” Bagulaya said.

Bagulaya said Leyte province has to take part in this project as this involves a provincial road.

She said with the ratification of the MOA, it was now made clear how much would PNOC-EDC spend for the concreting of the same road and also the counterpart funding allocation of the province of Leyte. Other terms and conditions involve in the project were also clarified.

Express learned that in the program of work, the project would cost around P90 million in all. But it has been agreed in the MOA that the giant oil company would shoulder about P75 million of it and the remaining P15 million would serve as the counterpart of the Leyte province.

Bagulaya said the provincial government of Leyte would handle the implementation of the project.

Bagulaya is hoping that before the year ends, the said project in Brgy. Aguiting would be completed.

“We see this as a significant project because this is serving as an access road to PNOC-EDC geothermal station which one of the region’s vital installations,” Bagulaya pointed out.
