Tacloban city – Many of the existing laws governing the conduct of national licensure examinations in the country provides the age requirement of at least 21 years old to take a professional licensure or board examination supervised by the Professional Regulations Commission.
However, it was learned that there are a number of graduates who have already completed a four-year degree course but still aging below the age requirement.
Through this, Leyte First District Representative Representatives seeking to allow applicants who are eighteen years of age to take government licensure examinations.
Cong. Petilla saw this that the 21 years of age requirement is discriminatory to students who, due to their entry in the primary level at a young age or due to grade acceleration as a result of extraordinary intelligence quotient complete a college degree before reaching the age of 21.
The bill numbered House Bill 5564 during the second regular session of the Thirteenth Congress aims to remove such age discrimination and barrier in order to realize the very intention of the educational system to recognize mentally gifted students.
This also dovetails with Republic Act No. 6809 lowering the age of majority from twenty-one to eighteen years old.
The lady solon believes that even with the age requirement lowered, the graduate can still cope up with the rigors of a professional licensure or board examination just like a 21-year old does
