Tacloban City - The government-run weather bureau announced some regions of the country, including Eastern Visayas, would continue to expect a dreary weather continue to expect a dreary weather due to the tail end of the cold front and the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) - oftentimes called by air pilots as the "Itch".
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reports that even with El Nino expected to prevail until the end of the first half of this year, its adverse impact have been temporarily affected by the interaction of the oceanic and atmospheric systems in the Pacific.
Weatherman Peping Delos Santos of PAGASA Tacloban told Leyte Samar Daily Express in a phone interview that the easterly wave, ITCZ and tail-end of the cold front will result to the continued experience of the northeast monsoon.
"Bisan El Nino pa kita yana kay tungod hini na mga atmospheric interactions, mauran pa gihapon kita dinhi ha Eastern Visayas,"Delos Santos said.
PAGASA cited that despite the presence of this weather system since the latter part of December, the air temperature during the Christmas month was observed to be slightly warmer than normal in the most parts of the country.
Meanwhile, in PAGASA Catbalogan forecast along the same line of the weather systems these past weeks, a probability of a tropical cyclone, or more popularly known as typhoon, may again enter the Philippine area of responsibility.
Weather experts say this due mainly that these atmospheric systems favor the formation of rain-inducing clouds.
The government-run weather bureau also said the whole of the Visayas and most part of Mindanao and Central and Southern Luzon region will be experiencing normal to way below normal rainfall during the first half of the year.
Affected areas is advised that they may be prone to floods and landslides due to this monsoon.
