TACLOBAN CITY – The 1st Mayor’s Cup Inter-School Sports Tournament will unfold on Wednesday, February 21.
The ports activity is in line with Mayor Alfredo “Bejo” Romualdez’s vision to make Tacloban City the sports capital in Eastern Visayas and to showcase the new and modern sports facility in the city, the Tacloban City Convention Center (Astrodome), as the leading venue for such activities in the region.
The event is organized by the City Physical Fitness and Sports Development Office through Joel Bugho, who is spearheading various city sports development programs designed to increase youth involvement and competitiveness in worthy activities.
The sports event features athletes from tertiary and secondary levels, from public and private schools within Metro Tacloban area, who will participate in the Basketball, Volleyball and Cheer Dance Competitions, which will run until May this year.
Bejo underscored that this sports competitions will motivate the youth to have good habits and encourage them to be actively involved in sports activities that will expose their skills and talents in friendly competitions.
“Sports is a powerful avenue and venue to help develop a sound mind and body, build character and draw the youth away from the use and abuse of drugs,” Mayor Bejo stressed.
