TACLOBAN CITY – Leyte Board Member Emmanuel Golo said it is up to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the region to pursue their investigation on the alleged “gift-giving” of a political aspirant to the municipal election offices in the province.
Golo, who represents Leyte’s fifth district in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, said he already sent a letter to the Comelec regional office, citing among others his reasons why the issue should be investigated.
“I already emphasized that in my privilege speech last month that Comelec should look into this allegation to avoid suspicions that the poll body will be influenced by politicians and political wannabes who have been giving extra favor to some Comelexc employees,” Golo said.
“I don’t want Comelec’s good image to be tarnished by this situation,” Golo sad.
In his privilege speech during the January 23 regular session, Golo said he has witnesses who can testify before the Comelec that there was indeed a “gift-giving” that allegedly took place during the Leyte Provincial Comelec employees, Christmas party at the Kanhuraw Convention Center sometime in December last year.
But Atty. Ibaňez said Golo should personally meet him and some other regional Comelec officials to talk and clear out the issue.
Golo, meanwhile, stressed that he already provided Comelec information that would aid the office should it conduct an investigation on the matter.
To recall, the Comelec has invited Golo to discuss the issue but the board member failed to appear for reasons that he comes to Tacloban once a week.
The Comelec has re-set the schedule twice but the board member stressed he could not attend the said meeting because he is busy attending to the needs of his constituents in the district he is representing in the provincial board and he also attends to his court hearings.
“The letter I gave to Comelec is already sufficient enough for them to investigate. I already gave them my source and the exact date and place the giving of cellular phones took place,” he added.
