Bejo says city gov’t plans to invite PGMA, TU to
grace terminal, astrodome opening

TACLOBAN CITY – The city government of Tacloban will invite no less than President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and all twelve Team Unity senatorial bets to grace the simultaneous formal opening of the new Abucay bus terminal and commercial complex and the Tacloban City Convention Center (TCCC), which would be held soon.

According to city Mayor Alfredo “Bejo” Romualdez the official inauguration of the P300 million worth landmark projects would be a week or two before the May 14 elections.

“There is still work to be done on the projects, but it would be finished well before the elections, so we have tentatively scheduled its formal opening at the end of this month or early May,” the Mayor said.

According to him, the TCCC is 70 percent complete while there is still substantial work to be done on three remaining uncompleted building at the Abucay commercial site. However, the mayor was optimistic that it would be finished and formally opened before the polls.

“That opening would be a very significant and momentous event not only for Tacloban but also for the whole Eastern Visayas region, thus, city extends to invite PGMA herself to lead the ceremonies. Also, all Team Unity candidates along with political leaders from all over the Region 8 would also be invited to grace the affair,” Romualdez disclosed.

“Another thing is that we have to invite the president and Team Unity to show our loyalty to them and the party as the election approaches,” the mayor, who belongs to the administration party Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi), added.

He further said that proclamation rallies for local and Administration bets might also be held at the TCCC, more popularly known as the Astrodome, at the same time.

“There could be proclamation rallies for national and local candidates to be held at the Astrodome at the same time with the formal opening pf the multi-million projects,” he said.

Constructed at a cost of more than P300 million, the TCCC and Abucay commercial complex are landmark projects of the city government, while according the outgoing mayor, will be one of his legacies as he leaves office.

Romualdez, who is on his third and final team, will be retiring from office and has endorsed his son Alfred, who has promised to continue his programs and projects, to become the next mayor of this booming city.
