TACLOBAN CITY – Confronted with allegations that on-going projects in the city are designed to gain votes for the local administration candidates, City Engineer Felix T. Ripalda refuted such saying “this has nothing to do with the forthcoming elections as these were already appropriated and approved even before the election period.”
This was the categorical statement made by Engr. Felix T. Ripalda as he was reacting to reports in the media that the frenzy now being observed in some parts of the city, are just strategies to gain more support for the city’s slate in the may 14 polls.
Further he clarified, that it was due to the voluminous requirements such as coming up with estimates and plans in the preparation of the program of works of all the 138 barangays in the city, that made it hard for them to finish the sane last year.
This he noted, are the main reasons why these projects were only implemented this year as even the recommending signatures and approval of the City Mayor was only done this early part of 2007.
“With or without elections in May, he said, these projects would have pushed through as all have already been programmed and funded for implementation.”
He further added that all the city’s 138 barangays have benefited from this infrastructure development program of the local government and this consists of vertical and horizontal structures, drainage projects and some road re-blocking.
Consequently according to Ripalda, these projects will continue up to its completion as all these have already been bid and the same already awarded to specific contractors. |
