TACLOBAN CITY – A baby girl with two heads and a third foot was born Wednesday night at government-run Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center here.
The information, however, about the baby was so limited as her parents and relatives requested to the management of the hospital for privacy.
“They requested us not to be interviewed as they don’t like to have a spectacle made out of the physical deformities of their baby. Hope you will understand,” a lady hospital staff said, referring to request of Leyte Samar Daily Express to get more information about the baby.
The parents of the baby declined to be interviewed. They are said to be from a town here in Leyte.
But in a text message, an official of the hospital, who asked not to be identified, confirmed about the birth of the said baby whose one face has cleft lip.
And based on the palate X-ray, it revealed that she has one heart and one stomach with an imperforate anus.
The baby has also a third foot, the third lies under here sex organ.
“But is too small compared to the two legs,” the official said.
But a doctor, who also declined not to be identified due to the “sensitivity” of the matter, said that the baby was born through a Caesarian operation and weighed about 9 pounds.
“The baby is otherwise healthy. But we are still monitoring her progress,” the doctor said.
It was learned from the doctor that the mother, 27, delivered the baby around 11 p.m. and was thought to be carrying a twin.
“In fact, prior to her delivery here at the EVRMC, she was first brought to the Leyte Provincial Hospital but was asked by the doctors there to have her delivery here due to her precarious pregnancy,” the doctor revealed.
The doctor told Express that the baby could be considered a “sort of Siamese twins.”
“There could be a lot of factors for this. It could be due to genetic or medicines that the mother has taken during her pregnancy. WE have yet to know the real reason though,” the doctor said. |
