DPWH to look into drainage problem in Leyte’s 1st dist.

PALO, TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) First Leyte Engineering District will be looking into the problem of drainage in the first district of the province.

District Engineer Baltazar Ausa told Leyte Samar Daily Express that during their meeting with the different municipal mayors in the first district held at the residence of Rep. Remedios Petilla, they promised that they will conduct a survey in the different municipalities to get the master drainage plan to control the river in Brgy. San Joaquin, Palo, Leyte whose sources is the Binaha-an river.

Ausa said the first Leyte engineering district is now in the planning stage to work out on this drainage problem in the different municipalities, and , in fact, they are now conducting actual ground survey in the different municipalities to address this problem.

He said that the drainage is one of the responsibilities and function devolved to the Local Government Units (LGUs) and concern o the DPWH are the major rivers that are the outlets of these drainage canals.

According to Ausa, the DPWH is now preparing the organization team who will look into the drainage problem in the first district of Leyte, especially in the towns of Tanauan and Palo where it has become a big problem to Rep. Remedios Petilla when there is a heavy crop damage due to heavy rains.

During their meeting, DA Regional Director Leo Cañeda, also said they will help the farmers in the affected municipalities.

Rep. Remedios Petilla also disclosed during the meeting that Leyte Gov. Jericho Petilla will help those affected farmers.
