By: Fred Padernos

TANAUAN, Leyte - The retirement day on Feb. 2 of Leyte Schools Division Supt. Aurora “Roree” Aquino Villarente was highlighted with an inauguration of a 4-classroom, two-storey school building at the Tanauan National High School.

Villarente in her speech before the students, parents, school officials and municipal officials said that she had mixed emotions while speaking because it was her retirement day and at the same time inauguration of another school building built during her incumbency as schools division superintendent of Leyte.

According to Villarente, Tanauan was the fourth municipality to receive the school building under the Secondary Education Development and Improvement Project (SEDIP). Other recipients were Tunga, Dulag, and Abuyog, all Leyte towns.

Villarente also urged the students to use their time wisely and to deliver best in their studies because, according to her, Leyte division was No. 1 in the National Achievement Test (NAT) last year.

Mayor Roque Tiu, Vice Mayor Dodong Bañez, and some Sangguniang Bayan members were also present during the affair.

Rep. Remedios Petilla, who was guest speaker, urged the students to take advantage of the facility while they are in school by studying, using properly the facility and the building.

Villarente, who was in full control of the DepEd Leyte division for the past five years, further said that these school buildings under the SEDIP were realized thru the joint effort of then governor and now Rep. Remedios Petilla, the LGU officials, DepEd, and the Japanese government thru the Philippine-Japan cooperation.

The retired educator will now be working under the Governor’s office, it was learned
