CATARMAN, Northern Samar - The provincial government of Northern Samar in coordination with the Philippine-Minnesotan Medical Association (PMMA) has sponsored a 5-day Medical and Dental Mission, from Feb. 5 to 9 and in simultaneous venues.
The venues of the mission were the Northern Samar Provincial Hospital here in Catarman, GB Tan Memorial Hospital in Laoang town and at the Allen District Hospital in Allen town.
Governor Raul Daza had visited these venues even before the medical and dental mission started.
The medical-dental group was composed of 25 doctors, 5 dentists, 22 nurses, 15 paramedical staff, 5 pharmacists and 2 laboratory technicians, who were aided by doctors from the province.
The said group was headed by Dr. Bernard Quebral, overall coordinator, and Dr. Tom Ong, host and local coordinator. They arrived at the Catarman airport on Feb. 4 and were met by provincial officials headed by Gov. Daza. They were accorded a warm welcome at the Governor’s residence.
As early as last Sunday morning, hundreds of patients already flocked to the venues and they were treated of different illnesses.
The medical mission group was divided into different teams. The Surgical Team in Laoang was headed by Dr. Tom Ong and the Out-patient Team B was headed by Dr. Purisimo Lucas; the Surgical Team in Catarman was headed by Dr. Ruben Fermin and the Out-Patient Team A was headed by Dr. Bernard Quebral and the Optha Team was headed by Dr. Maria Corazon Corvas; and the Dental Team was headed by Dr. David Ong. Pharmacist Tranquilina Winich was the group leader of the Pharmacy Team.
As part of the province’s counterpart, aside from the meals and snacks as well as the accommodation, Governor Daza had recalled all the vehicles from the different provincial offices as well as those service vehicles assigned to the board members for use of the Medical Team during the conduct of the 3-day “free medical and dental mission.”
