TACLOBAN CITY - The provincial government of Leyte is bent for the establishment and operationalization of a convergence marketing assistance and technology center in the province.
This was disclosed by newly-installed Provincial Agriculturist Loreto Yu in an interview with Leyte Samar Daily Express recently.
Yu said projects such as this is commonly called as “bagsakan center” of farm products produced by the farmers here in the province.
“The establishment of a bagsakan center is primarily aimed to provide marketing assistance to Leyte farmers to help bring their products to the buyers,” Yu said.
According to Yu, the bagsakan center may be placed here in the city or in a nearby town which is usually frequented by people who buy agricultural goods for commercial and personal use.
It is expected that the agricultural products that would be delivered to the bagsakan center are High Value Commercial Crops (HVCC).
This, Yu said, is because the HVCC are now the type of crops with high demand in the local market and even in other regions.
The province of Leyte decided to establish this bagsakan center out of its desire to meet the growing problem of some farmers who are accordingly worried already where to sell their products.
This problem arose as there is no particular market yet installed in the province that would cater to the produced agricultural crops while the number of growers, especially of HVCC, continually increases.
But Yu hopes that with establishment of this convergence marketing assistance and technology center this problem would be answered.
He said this technology center will not only accommodate farm products but it will also process crops into a packaging presentable enough to the buyers.
But Yu disclosed that some HVCC growers in the province already have contacts with some hotels and some establishments which buy their products at good price.
There are also some buyers who actually visit the actual farms of the HVCC growers to personally buy some of the farm produce they need.
