TACLOBAN CITY - The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) will be the pilot agency in the implementation of a government-initiated common numbering system in the country.
This was disclosed by PhilHealth National Vice President Val Valila in a press conference held recently at the Leyte Park Hotel here relative to the agency’s 11th Anniversary celebration.
Valila disclosed that the activity or the project could be started in the second or third quarter of this year.
Valila said this will be the newest ID system intended for all citizens of the country if ever things would run smoothly as he admitted that this has something to do with the national ID system.
He said each agency will still have its ID system but the government wants that everyone would have that so-called common number for certain purposes.
According to him, this common number will connect a person to the systems of the different agencies such that a certain individual will have lesser hustle in certain transactions.
“The said system will really help a lot the country’s economy and for the efficiency of the government,” Valila said.
Valila explained that the project is led by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) but based on plan the PhilHealth will be made as the pilot agency or organization in the country.
According to him, less than 10,000 ID’s will initially be printed for the pilot tests so that the agency could easily monitor and determine the effectiveness of this new common numbering system.
Asked what effect would it bring to the whole organization of PhilHealth, Valila said “hopefully that will help us a lot in the way we process our claims because later on if everybody gets to have his own ID the payments can be released easily and other processes will be done smoothly the reason why PhilHealth agreed for a pilot test.”
Valila said that the government this time has no specific allotment for this because the feasibility study of this common numbering system in the country is paid for by a Spanish grant. The Spanish government is into this as they have the expertise in this kind of ID system.
