TACLOBAN CITY – Chief Supt. Dionisio Coloma, Jr., regional police chief, said that he fully backs the plan of their national leadership for all the members of the Philippine National Police organization to undergo psycho-neuro test.
In an interview, Coloma said that it would even be good if this psycho-neuro test be conducted annually as he revealed that a newly-hired police officer was dismissed by him due to what he called as the “imbalance personality” manifested by the said junior police officer.
“This way, we could determine the mental make-up of our policemen. But much as I want this to be done in a yearly basis, this would cost much and the organization does not have extra funds for this purpose,” Coloma told Leyte Samar Daily Express.
“It would be better to have members in the organization who have the correct mental make-up. Mahirap na, baka mapatay ka pa,” the police regional added, alluding to the incident that triggered this mandatory neuro test.
This second round mandatory psycho-neuro test called by PNP Director General Edagrdo Aglipay among members of the PNP organization stemmed fro a carnage incident in Kalibo, Aklan perpetrated by a police officer that resulted to the death of seven police officers, including its provincial and municipal police officers and a seven-year-old girl.
Aspiring policeman undergo a psycho-neuro test before he is formally accepted to the organization.
Coloma told Express that through this test, it would now be easy to determine if one fit to become a police officer or has the tendency to commit acts that would cause destruction.
“Just like to any drive by our leadership, I am extending my total support to this plan; it would be gold for the organization,” he said.
He, however, could not say as to when this psycho-neuro test would be conducted among the region’s more that 5, 000 strong police organization.
Meantime, Coloma revealed tat a junior police officer, with a rank of police officer I, was dismissed from the ranks due to his “imbalance personality.”
“He manifested some behavior that borders to paranoia. In fact, the doctor who examined him said that he was schizophrenic. This was the reason why I dismissed him from the service,” he told Express.
The junior police officer, Coloma said, was from Biliran whose father is also a police officer assigned at the police regional office.
Dr. Alvin Opiniano, the chief medical officer of the PNP-8, confirmed the psycho-neuro test conducted to the said junior officer done by a private clinic.
Opiniano, by the strength of his examination on the concerned junior police officer, recommended him to dismiss from the roll.
“But if there will be some improvements on his mental condition, he is still welcome to join the organization,” Coloma said .
