BORONGAN, Eastern Samar – Inflation rate in this province declined to 6.1 percent in December 2004 from 6.4 percent in November and 8.0 percent in October of the same year.
The province’s inflation rate is lower by 1.8 percentage points to 1.3 percentage points from the country’s inflation rate of 7.9 percent and the region’s inflation rate of 7.4 percent, respectively. This means that the prices of goods and services in the province move slower compared to the prices of goods and services in the region and country.
The month-on-month inflation rate for December 2004 stood at 0.1 percent, higher by 0.1 percentage point from 0.0 percent rate last month. The increase on month-on-moth inflation rate is attribut6ed to the increase in the rates of the major commodities in Fuel, Light and Water and Services.
The Purchasing Power of the Peso (PPP) for December 2004 remained at 0.51. This means that the same market basket of goods and services worth of 0.51 peso in 1994 can be bought by one peso (1.00) in December 2004 .
