Bejo wants astrodome opened before city fiesta on June 30
By: JOEY A. GABIETA - Staff Writer

TACLOBAN CITY – Mayor Alfredo “Bejo” Romualdez said that construction work is going on without let-up at the proposed city astrodome so that this could be completed in the first half of this year.

“That is my target,” Romualdez told Leyte Samar Daily Express.

Romualdez added that he is hopeful that the astrodome would be opened to the public before the city fiesta on June 30 this year. With this target, the city mayor revealed that he made instructions to speed up the work so that the target date of completion could be met. The city government has allocated P100 million for the construction of this first ever astrodome of the city, which is also being targeted by the government as a potential business complex.

“This astrodome will play an important role in our effort to further develop this city. This will not only serve as a venue for conventions, for example but at the same time ads an alternative venue for our investors,” Romualdez told Express.

He said that he is pushing for the completion of the astrodome as this would signal that the city is ready to compete with other cities in the country in terms of attracting tourists and investors.

The astrodome is located in Sagkahan district of this city, in a reclamation site at the Kankabato Bay.

The city mayor stressed that he would like to see Tacloban become a more developed city.

Meantime, Mayor Romualdez told Express that no single family living along the Real – Pampanga area leading to the astrodome site would be relocated.

According to him, instead of relocating the hundreds of families living in this area, the city government would just reclaim lands which would be used as alternative route leading to the astrodome .
