TACLOBAN CITY – Advancing the thrusts for the development and improvement in the barangay level, Governor Carlos Jericho “Icot” Petilla and the Provincial Government of Leyte have started releasing over P4 million to the barangays for the construction of various small-scale infrastructure projects.
This is being done to speed up the construction and repair of barangay halls or multi-purpose buildings day care and health centers, expansion and improvement of water system; and construction if concrete bridges and other facilities in some town.
The Barangay Affairs office of the Provincial Governor’s Office revealed that the governor directly hand-in checks to every barangay chairman. A similar style to that of her mother former governor and now Rep. Remedios Matin Petilla, whose style of governance was identified closely with the barangays. This style of governance gives the barangays chief executives more leeway in the handling of the propjets, as they are able to personally administer them in their respective barangays.
Initially, the recipients of this financial assistance are a number of barangays in the municipalities of San Miguel, Villaba, Mayorga, Kananga, Baybay, La Paz, Tolosa, Javier, Abuyog, Tanauan, Babatngon, Jaro, Leyte and Hindang.
Other barangays whose chairmen were usually absent during the regular tour of the governor in the barangays missed the distribution of checks. There are the barangay Liberty, Sabang, Plaridel, and Brgy. Lat-osan, in Palompon; Brgy. Ciabu and Brgy. Pansagan in Baybay, Brgy. Cahigan and Brgy. Payaoin Villaba; Brgy. Canramos and Brgy. Atipolo in Tanauan, and Brgy. Palanog in Jaro.
With the initial amount of over P4.4 million, the construction of these small-scale projects in various barangays in the province id expected to have started already.
