BORONGAN, E. Samar – Mayor Manuel Enciso said he strongly supports and welcomes the proposed construction of Amandaraga Falls at Brgy. Guinob-an in Lawaan, this province, by Chinese investors into a hydro-electric-plant.
Enciso said this will create employment in the area and provide a stable power supply not only to Lawaan but for the entire Southern towns of Eastern Samar.
He added he is 100 percent approving the project when asked by a local media ember during the courtesy call by a team of Chinese businessman from Hangshou China on Gov. Evardone at the provincial capitol last Jan. 10.
The team was led by Wang Yuan, a hydro-electric engineer from the Zhejiang Machinery and Equipment Co. Ltd. of Hangshou, China.
The Chinese investors were accompanied by Jimmy Yaokasin Sr. of the Leyte Chamber of Commerce in response to Gov. Evardone’s invitation for them to invest in Eastern Samar.
Enciso said that although he is 100 percent approving the project, he will still consult the SB of Lawaan and his constituents whom he said will approve 80 percent.
The Chinese investors visited the Amandaraga and Amanjuray Falls at Brgy. Guinob-an, about six kilometers from Lawaan proper over the weekend and the Olot River in Can-avid for possible investment on hydro electric power generation.
According to Yuan, they prefer to invest in the construction of the Amandaraga Falls which can be finished in one year. The Amandaraga Falls can generate four megawatts when fully operational, enough to supply the electricity needs of Eastern Samar and much lower in costs than the present rates of NAPOCOR where ESAMELCO buys its electricity.
Evardone, in meeting with the local press, said that he is happy that these Chinese investors responded positively to his request to invest in the province. He urged them during their meeting in his office to submit their Letter of Intent to the Provincial Development Council the soonest time and which the Chinese said they will do.
With this positive development, Evardone said that he is proposing the sisterhood of Eastern Samar with the city of Hangahon, China for a sustained economic development between them. However, he urged the investors to keep the non-tourism aspects of the falls and the community in their developments of Amandaraga.
