Alangalang water project ready for implementation

ALANGALANG, Leyte – The municipal government of this town would implement the P30 million – loan package local utility water project for this municipality.

Mayor Jaime Velarde told Leyte Samar Daily Express the implementation of the water works project for his municipality would start this month of January 2005.

Mayor Velarde said he is waiting for the engineering master plan from a consultant from Bato, Leyte, who has been studying the project plans.

Velarde said that eight barangays in the poblacion would be served by the water project on or before June 19, or before the municipal fiesta. Then this would be extended to the nearest barangays until all the 54 barangays would be served.

Velarde added that the source of waters is in Barangay Tumbo, which is four kilometers away from the town proper.

Velarde added that he has been given authority by the Sangguniang Bayan to enter into an agreement for a loan from the Land bank of the Philippines. The P30-million loan package would be used fir the project and that they would the loan for seven years.

Velarde said he is very thankful to the people, barangay officials and members of the Sangguniang Bayan who have been supportive to him, particularly in the implementation of the water project which is one of the priorities of the local government.

He also said that aside from this water project, he is also focusing on livelihood projects through agriculture, with farmers as beneficiaries.

According to him, the municipal government is now giving information to the 54 barangays regarding poverty alleviation endeavors trough agriculture farm inputs and high value crafts for the farmers.

He also said that he is coordinating with the provincial government of Leyte regarding the implementation of high value crafts for his municipality.
