TACLOBAN CITY – The separate bombing incidents that hit Mindanao and Metro Manila had prompted police authorities in Eastern Visayas to raise security preparations in the region to a new level.
Chief Supt. Dionisio, Jr., police regional director, said that he directed all the region’s police directors to monitor all vital installations and public places in their respective areas to ensure safety of the public.
“Immediately after I learned on these bombing incidents, I called and directed all provincial police directors to secure all vital installations and areas frequented by our people. This way we could avert any untoward incidents,” Coloma, when reached on his mobile phone, told Leyte Samar Daily Express.
Among the installations that he ordered his subordinates were the San Juanico Bridge, the main links of all provinces in the region, the Geothermal Plant in Kananga, Leyte ferry terminals in Ormoc City, Allen, Northern Samar, and Isabel, Leyte.
The region’s major airport, the Daniel Z. Romualdez (DZR) Airport, was also provided additional police security by Coloma amid the latest bombings to rock the country.
Bus terminals all over the region were also given extra police security, Coloma said.
He also told Express that police visibility in public places like shopping centers and churches were also intensified since hours after the bombings in General Santos and Davao cities and Metro Manila.
“I can assure our people in Eastern Visayas that we are on top of the situation. Everything is in place now in so far as providing security to our people and all vital installations located in the region. We are doing al, our best on this aspect,” Coloma said.
The bombing incidents in Gen. Santos City, Davao and Manila last Monday had resulted to seven deaths and the injury of scores of people. The Abu Sayyaf Group reportedly claimed responsibility fro this latest carnage.
