TACLOBAN CITY – The national Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL), Leyte chapter, recently held the election of its officers at the Small and Medium and Enterprises Development (SMED) center, this city.
The NMYL is a national organization of young government officials accredited by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Committee on ASEAN Youth Cooperation (CAYC). Its members include vice-governors, vice-mayors, provincial board members, and city / municipal councilors, aged 18 to 35 years old at the timer of their election.
The new set of officers of NMYL – Leyte are: Atty. Carlo P. Loreto, president; Winston B. Menzon, vice president; Bianco Mate, secretary-general; Harry del Pilar, deputy secretary-general; Love Joy Sipulvida, provincial treasurer; Edwin Lerios, deputy provincial treasurer; Roy Alan Erandio, provincial auditor; Danilo Balais, deputy auditor; Pursia Avestruz and Rex Maxambol, PROs.
Erwin Dy, Myrna Solis, Grand Exequel Traya, Ma. Fe Rondina, and Roy Agustin Carolino compose the provincial director of said organization.
This new set of officers represent Leyte in the forthcoming NMYL 14 th National Congress (NatCon) on March 3, 4 and 5, 2005 at the Westin Philippine Plaza, CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
This year’s Congress theme is “The Role of Young Legislators in Achieving Genuine Local development: Revisiting NMYL Agenda,” wherein President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is expected to be the keynote speaker.
Now on its 14 th year of existence, the NMYL has remained steadfast as the nationwide league for the young, the idealists and the catalysts for reforms, particularly in local governance.
According to Winston Menzon, vice-president of NMYL-Leyte, the congress is primarily encouraging active participation of young political leaders to formulate an agenda that can be implemented at the grassroots level advocating new politics and good governance.
Menzon pointed out that the congress will surely be of great challenge to the young legislators towards building a string Philippines.
He assured that the new set of officers of NMYL – Leyte will perform their role to the best they can so that genuine local development not only in Leyte but in the whole region will be achieved.
