LCCI favors proposed VAT hike
By: Lemuel L. Pagliawan - Staff Writer

TACLOBAN CITY – The Leyte Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) is officially supporting the proposed increase of Value Added Tax from the existing 10 percent to 12 percent.

Jaime Dechos , executive director of the LCCI, said that the stand of the LCCI and even the national business chambers is to support the 2 percent increase in VAT.

“However, as a taxpayer and consumer, my personal stand is that the government must first impose efficient tax collection efforts rather than increasing the VAT because much taxes up to this time are still uncollected,”’ Dechos said.

But “this is just my personal suggestion…this does not necessarily take the stand of the whole LCCI and other business chambers,” Dechos stressed.

“I would like to correct earlier reports quoting my opinion as a representation of the stand also of the LCCI,” he pointed out.

LCCI is the biggest organization of small and medium businessmen in the province of Leyte
