DENR distributes land titles in newly-surveyed So. Leyte village
By: Purificacion S. Daloos, DENR-8 - Staff Writer

TACLOBAN CITY – “Some 800 lots are due for land titling in Barangay Higatungan, Silago, Southern Leyte,” said Rodolfo M. Jaca, chief of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) in Southern Leyte.

According to Jaca, this is because the public Land Survey (PLS) conducted for said barangay was approved on October last year. With the PLS approval, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is now accepting applications for land titling from claimants of lands in the said barangay.

Recently, some 67 patents were distributed to new landowners in Brgy. Higatungan, Silago. Thirteen other patents that were ready for distribution remained unclaimed. The patentees may claim these at the Register of Deeds in Maasin City.

The patent distributed held on January 27, 2005 was in coordination with the offices of the Register of Deeds, PENRO-Southern Leyte, Community Environment Natural Resources Office-San Juan, the LGU of Silago, and Barangay Council of Higatungan.

Jaca said that the patent distribution was conducted as a form of advertisement to encourage other land claimants in Brgy. Higatungan to have their lands titled.

Applications for land titling of the said barangay are currently being accepted and processed through the CENR Office in San Juan, Southern Leyte.

“The Department’s land titling program aims to enhance the land occupants’ agricultural productivity and augment their income through agricultural development,” said Regional executive Director Leonardo R. Sibbaluca
