CATBALOGAN, Samar – The economy of the province of Samar is not evolving and devolving on factories, big business and commercial enterprises.
It is evolving and devolving only on the small and medium enterprise (SME) typified by the smallest sari-sari store in the barangays and the few department stores here in Catbalogan.
In an interview with Vice Governor Jesus B. Redaja in his office recently, it was learned that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan had approved a resolution endorsing the desire of the Provincial Small and Medium Enterprise Developed Council (PSMEDC) that the provincial government identify and allocate an area, owned by the provincial government, upon which to construct a building which will become the center of SME office and its varied operations.
One of the paragraphs of the resolution says:
“One of the flagship projects that has been identified by the Council (PSMEDC) is the establishment of a One Stop SME Center in the provincial capital of Samar. The center will accelerate countryside development by providing business information and services such as technology transfer, market linkages and assist in financing of new enterprises’’.
After an exchange of remarks, it was established that Governor Milagrosa T. Tan had previously identified the area at the northside of the capitol tennis courts, fronting on the national highway.
Further discussion on the subject revealed that Governor Tan has already appropriated the amount of P50, 000, to initially launch the construction of the SME building and the improvement of the site.
Ultimately, the SP passed a resolution requesting the governor to donate the site to the SME.
