TACLOBAN CITY – Three scholars from Philippine Science High School – Eastern Visayas Campus are competing in the 2 nd National Asians High School Debate Tournament in De la Salle University, Manila on February 4-8, 2005.
Lievj Raoni Alimangohan (alternate of Lenvic Elicer Lesigues), Lara Grace Lofranco and Jane Bernadette Poticano, composing one of the regional winning teams in recently concluded First Eastern Visayas High School Parliamentary Debate Cup, represent the region in the said All-Asians Parliamentary Debate.
Reynaldo Garnace joined the team as the official coach.
1 st EV High School Parliamentary Debate Cup
Seven schools from all over Eastern Visayas had qualified for the elimination round in the debate dubbed as “Lantugi han Kabataan” set last January 25-26, 2005 in Bishop Gonzaga Hall, Holy Infant College, Tacloban City.
After the double elimination round, four schools qualified for the semi-final round namely: Sacred Heart College (SHC), Leyte Progressive High School (LPHS), Leyte National High School (LNHS) and Philippine Science High School – Eastern Visayas Campus (PSHS-EVC).
Leyte State University, Holy Infant College and Samar National High School landed fifth, sixth and seventh places, respectively.
LPHS and PSHS – EVC outwitted the two other schools and made it to the championship round.
By an edge of 4 points, LPHS was declared championship over PSHS-EVC.
All four winners in the semi-final round are qualified to compete in the national level but due to unavoidable circumstances, only PSHS – EVC and LNHS were reported to be joining in the national tilt.
Ms. Kristine Mae Julio (SHC) bagged the overall award for Best Speaker and Best Debater.

The regional debate tournament was conceived by the Debate Society of the University of the Philippines in the Visayas – Tacloban College through the leadership of Prof. Geraldo Petilla and its president Marc Titus Cebreros.
To realize the project, the adviser of the different debating teams chaired by Reynaldo Garnace (PSHS-EVC) organized the tournament. Other officers include Mrs. Jessibeth Caday (LNHS) as vice-president; Mrs. Belinda Lora (EVSU), secretary; Mrs. Jocelyn Tiopes (HIC), treasurer; Ms. Cristina Motel (LPHS), P.I,O; and Rogelio Ticoy, Jr. (SHC), business manager.
The First Parliamentary Debate Training was held sometime in August 2004 and tournament was concluded last January 25-26, 2005.
