By: Miriam Garcia Desacada - Staff Writer

PALO, Leyte – PNP Chief and Director General Edgardo Aglipay described yesterday the destabilization threats against the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as a “thing of the past” now that the international community has its confidence in the government’s thrust for economic stability.

Aglipay who graced the 14 th day anniversary of the Philippine National Police regional office here at the Camp Ruperto Kangleon, assured the public in an interview with the Leyte Samar Daily Express that with the good economic condition of the country today where the peso dropped to 54 level against the U.S. dollar for the first time since Oct. 2003 owing to the 6.1 percent economic growth last year.

He even hinted that this might even drop further to only 52 against the dollar before the end of this month, which means that peace and order stability will remain secured as expected by the international community and destabilization plan considered as nil.

The PNP chief during the same interview also said that any destabilization plot to coincide on the anniversary of EDSA on Feb. 25 will not succeed, as even if the worst scenario comes the PNP in the entire country is ready to crush them.

Aglipay also dismissed reports on the plans of the opposition and militant groups to organize the EDSA 4 whose primary aim is to destabilize the Arroyo administration.

“Political destabilization is always being expected, but doon sa nagbabalak ‘wag nalang nila ituloy,” he said.

A national daily broadsheet reported that based on the National Statistics Coordinating Board (NSCB) report, GDP growth last year was the fastest since the 6.2 percent in 1989 and well above the 4.7 percent recorded in 2003.

Aglipay believe that with the good indication of economic growth the trust of the international community is expected who is also means stable peace and order situation.
