The Reproductive Health Youth Base (RHUB) of the University Student Services Office (USSO) organized its First Summer Youth Camp entitled, “Jamming with the Youth” held on May 15-16, 2006 at the LSU Convention Center.
Out-of-school youth from the different municipalities of Leyte, SK officials and some LSU students attended the two-day camp. The activity focused on topics about youth reproductive health’ which covered teenage sexuality and personality development, early pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s) and gender issues.
Jonap Borlado and April May Nayga, LSU students and RHUB peer managers, re-echoed the consequences of teenage pregnancy while Dr. Josephine Zafico, LSU resident physician, lectured on STD’s and Human Immuno-deficiency Virus or HIV. A lecture on children’s rights was also tackled during the camp.
Before the end of the youth camp, participants ere able to draft the badge of commitment and air their opinions in an open forum.
The youth camp was facilitated by Mrs. Adelina Carreno, Mrs. Christina A. Gabrillo and Mrs. Marissa Cano of LSU Radio DYAC and Mr. Fermin Inoferio of the Institute of Human Kinetics.
