The Leyte State University main campus is offering two new undergraduate courses this school year 2006-2007. Aside from the several courses already offered, freshmen can now enroll in BS in Development Education (BSDE) and BS in Economics (BSE).
As an answer to the current needs of the employment market, the BS in Agricultural Development (BSAD) was converted to BSDE with major in Agricultural Extension. It equips the students with community development and extension skills. The BSDE program is a non-thesis course. Thus, students have to undergo internship in selected government agencies and private firms.
The BSE program, on the other hand, is a result of the conversion of the BS in Agribusiness major in Economics. This new course provides solid foundation in theoretical economics and analytical skills of economic models and empirical data. It also equips students who wish to pursue graduate studies with thorough academic training in pure and applied economics. BSE students nay opt to take thesis or internship.
Some of the employment opportunities for BSDE graduates include extension workers or supervisors in government and private agencies, community development officers, community project planners, evaluators and consultants while BSE graduates may work as competent economists in government non-government and multi-lateral business organizations.
