8 Costless gifts

( Melvis Araneta (Source: Newslight Issue No. 3, 2002 – ESSU)

Friends are like plant that has to be cultivated and must be watered for it to produce a wholesome fruit. They are one of the assets people ever have, and some people measure their success through friends.

Some people believe that the more friends they have, the more successful they are. But also friends make people smile, and encourage a successful life. They are not only personal friends, personal acquaintances but a member in our home and society.

Friends serve as an inspiration, who lend an ear and share happiness. Strangers could be considered a friend we haven’t met. According to Tony Rivera of LHP, “its just a matter of winning them, we all have our own manners in attracting people to become our friends.

Here are some to consider in winning friends:

  1. The gift of listening. Lending an ear to someone in need is one way of sharing our friendship to them. It opens our mind to something of value that we haven’t come across with. When we listen, we should not only hear but also pay attention to every point because it frees us to see the other side of them in knowing them better. When we listen, it is precautionary not to interrupt, no daydreaming to response. But you must really listen.
  2. The gift of affection. Be generous with appropriate hugs, kisses, pats on the backs and handholds. Let these small actions demonstrate the love you have for family and friends.
  3. The gift of laughter. Share light moments and create a minute of laughter. Clip cartoons. Share articles and funny stories. Keep moments that foster cool moods with others.
  4. The gift of a written note. It can be simple “thanks for the help” note or a full sonnet. A brief, handwritten note may be remembered fro a lifetime, and may even change a life. Writing acknowledgment can make a long lasting friendship.
  5. The gift of a compliment. A simple and sincere word like “you look great in red” “you did s superb job” or “that was a wonderful meal.” can make someone’s day.
  6. The gift of a favor. Everyday go out of your way to do something kind. Do for others what you want them do for you.
  7. The gift of solitude. There are times when we want nothing better than to be alone. Be sensitive to those times and give the gift of solitude to others.
The gift of a cheerful disposition. The easiest way to feel good is to extend a kind word to someone really it’s not that to say, “hello” or “thank you”. Kindness is based on the loving heart of the giver, not the loving heart of the recipient
