Promoting investments in Eastern Visayas

The decision of the Provincial Government of Leyte and the Leyte Chamber of Commerce and Industry to hold a series of business-oriented activities in October is both welcome and far-reaching.
           
Among others, this partnership shows that the private sector is actively pursuing investment growth in a manner that exceeds previous efforts.
           
The schedule of activities is a very busy one and shows the key roles those government agencies such as the Department of Agriculture, Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Science and Technology plays in investments promotion.
           
What should we hope for?
           
Let’s hope the events are well-organized, well-attended and substantive in a way that will lead to decisions to investment or to increase existing investments. It’s the follow through that really matters.
           
It’s applying the learning’s from technology lectures that will count. Those involved need to attend to the requests and requirements of the private sector.
           
Whatever the sponsors will spend for this month-long celebration will be worth it. We need   to perk up business in this region. There are many business opportunities waiting to be tapped.
           
We wish to point out too that while this is a celebration of business month in Leyte, it has far-reaching regional significance. Some of the participants in the activities could come from the other provinces in Eastern Visayas. The inputs that could be needed for the new investments could come from the other provinces, these would include raw materials for agri-business for example, and skilled workers for services and industries that will locate in Leyte.

No doubt, this is not just provincial event. It is an investment pitch for the entire Eastern Visayas Region.
