Getting business to be more aggressive

If there is anything we should see our business sector do in this Leyte Business Month, it’s being aggressive - aggressive in looking for business opportunities and in seeking out others so they come over and set up their businesses in Eastern Visayas. They also have to be aggressive in ensuring the success of their enterprises.

The program for the month-long celebration has a lot of technology demonstrations that will improve products, but how many of those who will attend will actually venture into business?

There are already investment areas identified as having considerable potential, but will these attract investors to the point of actually putting their money into them?

Understandably, there is always a lot of hesitation. A few have been brave enough to go into tourism and agri-business. Moderate successes have happened in Baybay, Leyte and in Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Considering the size of our economy, which has a Gross Regional Domestic Product of around P27.9 Billion per year, they do not seem to be large enough to make a major impact in terms of production, employment and income on a regional scale.

Perhaps, it is going to take a few more years to get this going. The key now seems to be: just keep on trying.

We might hit the proverbial jackpot in the next few years.

We have to think positive, even if our successes have been modest.
