Statistics and business

Having accurate statistics is always a must for business.  From the time a business venture is planned (e.g. is there a market for the products or services?) To monitoring how it is performing (e.g. is it profitable?), statistics should always guide the entrepreneur.  After all, sound business decisions should be based on facts and not on guesses or perceptions.

It is quite a coincidence that both Statistics Month and the Leyte Business Month are celebrated in the Month of October.  There is enough bases to say that the two must be celebrated together, at least in so far as this part of the country is concerned.

By being related celebrations, Statistics Month can be so designed, in the case of Leyte, in such a way that there is a focus on business.  There is always a national theme for Statistics Month but this should not deter statistics authorities from adopting a special, maybe additional, theme for the Province of Leyte.

In turn, the celebration of Leyte Business Month can include events which will recognize the importance of statistics in business, perhaps in the form of exhibits that pertain to statistics which are useful in making investment decisions and in determining what is happening to business.

This is a symbiotic approach that is worth a try next year.

In the meantime, we can hope for the best, that is, the Leyte Business Month Celebration achieves its objective of promoting Leyte as an investment destination.
